This little adventure actually happened back in October, but I decided to hold off on sharing it. Evergreen’s beach trails quickly became one of my regular spots, and as much as I love documenting my journey in real time, I’m a bit cautious about letting anyone know my go-to places while I’m still in the area. So, a little delayed, but here it is—one of my favorite fall finds.
Dear Rain Gods of the PNW,
Your timing is impeccable.
I finally get it. After my friend recommended Evergreen College’s beach trails, I made my way over and… wow. Just wow. The whole place felt like stepping into another world—a “living laboratory” as they call it, and I’m beyond thankful for the suggestion. The trails were stunning, winding through dense, mature trees with ferns (yes, I’m still questioning my plant ID skills) and a soft carpet of moss wrapping around every trunk. I’m from Utah, so I’ve never seen anything quite like it; it’s all so green, and it’s magical.

Evergreen College has a unique vibe. They treat their campus as an ecosystem, with students and faculty managing the natural areas as a way to teach and learn from the land itself. You can feel it when you walk through the trails—there’s an intentionality to how the paths are maintained, and it feels like everyone’s part of a bigger picture. I’ve been to a lot of schools, but I’ve never seen this level of care. Their commitment to sustainability is next level, and the trails almost feel enchanted, like you’re part of some natural wonderland.
Stella and I found the beach, and it was perfection. There wasn’t a soul in sight, so yes, I went a little rogue and let her off leash (I know, rebel nurse over here). She was ecstatic, nose down in the sand, completely uninterested in my attempts to snap some cute selfies. Classic Stella.

Then the skies opened up. Not just a drizzle, but full-on sheets of rain. But, lesson learned—if you’re dressed for it, rain is actually pretty awesome. My flannel? Not so waterproof. Thankfully, a thrift-store rain jacket has officially joined my wardrobe.
Here’s to new trails, soggy selfies, and loving the rain just a little bit more each day.
Until next time,
Your Finally Dry Nomadic Nurse
