The Life of a Roaming Nurse Across Borders

Well Fed and Good as New

Dear Cupid of the Kitchen and Construction,

So, there’s this guy… and he’s been making life on the road a whole lot sweeter. Not only is he a fantastic cook—seriously, his meals rival anything I’ve had in a restaurant—but he’s also pretty handy when it comes to keeping the van in shape. He’s got this job managing electrical contracts for big construction projects and similar tasks (at least, I think that’s what he does), and it’s clear he knows his way around a toolbox.

The other day after work, I went over to his place, and he surprised me with made-from-scratch chicken fried steak—white gravy, mashed potatoes, the works. It was, hands down, the best thing I’ve ever eaten. And the way he humbly accepted my praises with just a few words? Let’s just say, he’s not one to brag, but he could if he wanted to.

Later, when he was fixing my van, I found myself pacing, feeling like I absolutely should be doing something. He sensed this, of course, and just told me to sit down. I’d just come off night shift, so maybe he was happy to do it for me? Who knows? But naturally, me being me, I started feeling like I was overstaying my welcome, so I left shortly after.

He’s also ten years older than me, which is new for me, but I’m really liking it. There’s something about his experience and confidence that just works. It’s different, but in the best way possible—mature without being overbearing. So far, things are going really well, and I’m curious to see where this will lead.

And while I’m definitely enjoying the perks of being well-fed and having a well-maintained van, I’m also just appreciating how easy and comfortable things feel with him. No drama, just good food, good company, and a whole lot of laughs.

So, here’s to whatever comes next—because if it’s anything like how things have been going, I’m all in.

Until next time,
Your Well-Fed and Well-Fixed Nomadic Nurse
