The Life of a Roaming Nurse Across Borders

Goodbye Coffee Mugs

Dear Roundabout Rulers of Washington,

I have a question for you: Why? Just… why? I’m convinced that Washington State is on a mission to create the world’s largest collection of roundabouts. They’re everywhere! And while they might be great for traffic flow, they’ve become my new nemesis. Every time I hit one, I brace myself for the inevitable—things flying off shelves, items tumbling to the floor, and me letting out a deep sigh of resignation. Driving the van has become second nature at this point, but the roundabouts? They’re the chaos I didn’t ask for but now have to live with.

But enough about the roundabouts. Let’s talk about life in the van. I’m happy to report that I’m finally settling in, and it feels… well, it feels like home. The van, Poppy, is more comfortable now that I’ve got everything in its place—or at least in a place where it’s supposed to stay put until I hit a roundabout. I’m feeling settled, safe, and even a little cozy. The girls are thriving too, adapting to our little nomadic life like champs.

One of the things I’ve realized is that I wear the same five things all the time. Seriously, I think I could pare down my wardrobe to just one overhead cabinet and still be perfectly fine. It’s funny how living in a small space forces you to rethink what you really need. I’m considering a serious declutter and purge session soon. After all, the less I have, the less I have to pick up off the floor after every roundabout!

Life outside of the van is… boring in the best way possible. Work at the prison is what it is—learning a new system of healthcare and dealing with correctional officers who sometimes think I’m stupid. But I’m getting the hang of it, and I’m not letting their attitudes get to me. It’s all part of the process, right?

So, all in all, things are good. Boring and good. Which, honestly, is exactly what I need right now.

Until next time,
Your Roundabout-Weary Nomadic Nurse
